Description

In this work, the teacher Silvia Salvadori wanted to give greater prominence to the bright colors typical of the painting of Spinello Aretino and at the same time refine the features of the face of the angel with the typical stroke of the hand of Simone Martini.

Another particular are the wings of the angel. For example, in the original painting by Spinello Aretino the wings of the angels are rendered heavy and more static, while in Silvia Salvadori they acquire greater lightness through numerous plays of light.

The whole image is rendered with more naturalism and up to transform every single feather into a real feather. The painting is overall extremely elegant and even more embellished with meticulous decorations on pure gold, made "dot by dot" with agate stone and punch. The decoration has been further enriched by applying precious stones (rock crystal gems and blue sapphire) on the floral decorations in gold. Very elegant is the pink and purple dress, enriched by subtle golden highlights in transparency with the original "scratch" technique on gold.

A bit of history: Spinello by Luca Spinelli, commonly known as Spinello Aretino (Capolona (Arezzo), about 1350 - 14 March 1410), was an Italian painter, one of the most active in Tuscany in the second half of the fourteenth century.

His family was originally from Capolona. His father, Luca, was a goldsmith, who moved to Arezzo where Spinello grew «... so inclined by nature to being a painter, that almost without a teacher, being still a child, he knew what many exercised under the discipline of excellent masters "(Giorgio Vasari).

His training took place in Arezzo, near the older painter Andrea di Nerio with whom he collaborated as a young student and from which he became independent at least in the seventies.
